A local electrician has been charged with pocketing $7,410 after altering his employer’s books.
Kevin William Smith, 50, who lives on Lake Ella Road in Fruitland Park, was arrested Thursday on a charge of grand theft.
Smith was working for a company this past June when he was assigned a two-day electrical job, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The name of the company was redacted from the report. After he completed the job, Smith went into the company’s system and made it appear as though the $7,410 job had been paid for by the customer. However, an audit later showed that even though the invoice was marked paid, no payment had been received.
When a representative of the company contacted the customer, the customer claimed that Smith had paid for the job with a credit card and she had written him a check to cover the $7,410 amount due…
