Thanks to record rainfall over the holidays, plus more rainstorms in February, some spectacular blooms are in our not-so-distant future. Think purple lupines, baby blue eyes, golden California Poppies and bright yellow wild mustard blanketing hills, trails and fields throughout L.A. and the rest of Southern California. Coachella Valley Wildflower Festival

The desert is a prime flower spotting destination in the early weeks of spring. On March 7 Friends of the Desert Mountains hosts its annual Coachella Valley Wildflower Festival at Desert Civic Center Park. From 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. enjoy native plants, a youth art contest, arts and crafts, food trucks, local artisans, information booths and more. FREE.
