San José police say a 36-year-old man is behind a months-long streak of commercial break-ins that rattled businesses in downtown and east San José, from storefronts to a house of worship. Officers on proactive foot patrol along McKee Road spotted and detained the suspect on February 12, and detectives now believe roughly two dozen burglaries are tied to the same case. The alleged spree stretches back to August 2024, with investigators saying that cash and other items were taken and that each hit left more than $1,000 in damage. The probe is still active as detectives sort through evidence.
According to a press release from the San José Police Department, the Financial Crimes Burglary Unit launched a detailed investigation in January 2026 and linked approximately 24 incidents to the same suspect. Police identified the man as Cesar Gomez-Saucedo and allege he repeatedly went into businesses, stole cash and other property, and left a costly trail behind. The department credits those extra foot patrols along McKee Road with setting up the arrest.
Where Investigators Say the Crimes Happened
Detectives describe the pattern of break-ins as clustered in downtown and east San José, with McKee Road, Alum Rock Avenue and East Julian Street all named as hotspots. Police did not release the names of the individual businesses, only that five commercial locations and one house of worship were targeted in the series. After his arrest, Gomez-Saucedo was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. The Santa Clara County Court website explains how to look up custody status and upcoming court dates.
