College of Staten Island ready for ‘any type’ of emergency with $2M boost in federal funding

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— The College of Staten Island is in the midst of a safety overhaul, which includes doubling the number of surveillance cameras operating across its sprawling campus, officials announced Friday.

The upgrades are thanks to a $2 million boost in federal funding for the school’s Office of Public Safety, secured by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, a Republican representing Staten Island and South Brooklyn.

The money will help establish a centralized hub for services that will allow students, faculty and community members to “quickly access emergency services, safety information and critical support resources,” said Malliotakis during a press conference on the Willowbrook campus…
