Officer in attempted abduction from Hinckley bar surrenders rights to work as a police officer

An off-duty police officer who is suspected of illegally detaining a man at the Buzzard’s Roost tavern in April 2024 pleaded guilty to charges of attempted abduction in Medina County Common Pleas Court Feb. 9.

Daniel Lajack, 48, of Brunswick, initially faced two counts of abduction, one count of ethnic intimidation and one count of assault. His charges were amended to one count of attempted abduction, a fourth-degree felony, at the request of Assistant Medina County Prosecutor Scott Salisbury.

The remaining charges against Lajack were dismissed on the condition that he relinquishes the certificate that allows him to work as a police officer. As part of the plea deal, Lajack also agreed to testify, if necessary, against his co-defendant in the case, Donald Kopchak, 41, of Brunswick…
