Teen saves family from early morning house fire in Rockport

A 15-year-old girl emerged as a hero in Rockport when she awoke her family and led them to safety during an early-morning house fire in Coastal Oaks Estates on Feb. 13, ultimately helping to contain the blaze before firefighters arrived.

Miranda Patterson stirred around 5 a.m. to an irritating noise she initially attributed to a water bottle in her little sister’s bed. After checking and finding nothing, she noticed the sound emanating from near the wall. Placing her hands against it, she felt heat and peered out her window and toward her door, where she discovered flames. Realizing the danger, she immediately prioritized evacuating her family.

Miranda first roused her siblings, twin sister Shantala Patterson, little sister Lillian Nelson, and brother Gunner Nelson, ushering them outside. She then alerted her parents, Chris Patterson and Stephanie Jordan, before grabbing the dog’s leash and ensuring the pet’s escape. She was the last to exit the home…
