(KNUE-FM) This might be some of the best news I have heard out of high schools in Texas in quite some time. NBCDFW is reporting that book checkouts have tripled at a Dallas high school after implementing the cellphone ban.
A new state law banning cellphones sparked major debate between students and teachers. However, after months of implementation, it appears to be a success.

I’m not sure anyone would have predicted this but due to the cellphone ban, students are looking for other ways to stay entertained, and the library is quickly becoming the new spot.
Hillcrest High School’s Library Sees Major Shift
A librarian at Hillcrest High School said that she bought new books, audiobooks and STEM projects that were never touched for over a year. But once the phone ban was put into place, books started flying off the shelves.
It’s encouraging to hear that students are choosing to pick up books, even after school, you will see students holding a book instead of their phone.
