ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Aimed at getting more people off the streets, a multi-million-dollar affordable housing project is now being built in one of Albuquerque’s most populated areas. Construction crews are moving to turn a lot near Central Ave. and Chama Street into an affordable housing community called “The Cottages at 161 Chama,” that’s been in the works for over a year.
“It’s an opportunity for people who are employed, have a job, but they might be struggling coming out of recovery or out of homelessness or out of poverty and you know and having rent that is very cheap or affordable will enable them to stay housed,” said Roger Valdez, Director for the Center for Housing Economics.
