ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United’s TOPSoccer program offers an accessible soccer experience for kids with special needs, grouping them by ability rather than age.
Phia Smith, executive director of Somos Unidos Foundation, said the program runs for six weeks every spring. Last year, 68 kids participated, and this year, the number is expected to reach 115.
Smith attributes the program’s growth to word of mouth and its unique nature in Albuquerque. To support this expansion, the program is seeking volunteers to serve as “buddies” for the kids…
