Project Refresh holds monthly shower day at May Park

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Project Refresh held its monthly shower day at May Park, offering free showers, health screenings and food to people in need.

The event, co-hosted by the Georgia Department of Public Health, also provided counseling, dental and medical care, along with resources to help attendees prepare for cold weather.

Lisa Ann Wheeler of the Georgia Department of Public Health spoke about the event.

“I probably hug every single person that comes through,” Wheeler said. “And you don’t know what someone’s going through. We don’t wear signs that say, you know, I’m grieving or whatever. This is a safe space to be. I love the fact that the community comes together. Housed, unhoused, seniors, families, children. Everybody comes because there’s something for everyone here.”…
