Francis Marion to be honored around the Lowcountry on the 294th anniversary of his death

LOWCOUNTRY, S.C. (WCIV) — Francis Marion, a Berkeley County native and South Carolina military icon, will be honored at multiple events marking the 294th anniversary of his death in the Lowcountry.

Marion died in Orangeburg County on Feb. 27, 1795. He was buried at his brothers home, Belle Isle Plantation, in Berkeley County. There, historians, descendants, and community leaders will gather Friday to honor the Swamp Fox’s legacy.

Berkeley 250 and the south Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission (SC250) will host its annual memorial service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The cemetery is located in Pineville at 1 General Francis Marion Avenue…
