Civic assembly gives Lexington residents a voice in city government

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A group of Lexington residents is helping make long-term decisions for policymaking in their city.

In the fall, Kit Anderson, deputy director of CivicLex, a nonprofit focused on community engagement, announced the group’s initiative, and several months later, their vision for the city’s inaugural civic assembly is becoming a reality.

“The survey heard from people about the topics, the subject of the assembly or what they call the mandate. We wanted to hear from the community on that and sending out those 10,000 postcards, that was our way of inviting everyday residents to participate,” Anderson said…
