RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Dozens gathered Saturday at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School to remember the life of King Salim Khalfani, the former executive director of the Virginia NAACP Conference.
The ceremony included music, dancing and speeches from those whose lives Khalfani touched.
Several people came to the podium to share stories of how Khalfani impacted their lives and how they plan to keep his legacy alive.
“King Salim Abdullah Khalfani, the royal servant of God, is destined to rule in peace,” Iman Shabazz said. “To know Salim is to know that he was revered by many and even feared by some, but if you, at any point, walked, struggled, laughed, argued, or organized alongside him. You knew he unapologetically lived a life in full service to our people. He was undoubtedly the Malcolm of our time.”
