LPSS employee seeks whistleblower statute protections

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A Lafayette Parish School System employee alleges he is facing workplace retaliation after cooperating in a forgery investigation involving a former district official. Huey Manshack, a longtime electrician for the school system, claims the adverse actions began after he assisted in the probe into former construction director Robert Gautreaux.

Manshack’s attorney, David Rutledge, is seeking whistleblower protections for his client under state law. The request follows a work performance reprimand Manshack received while the investigation into Gautreaux was ongoing. Manshack has worked as an electrician for the school system for more than 15 years. The timing suggests a retaliatory motive.
