Waxahachie man sentenced to 70 months for SIM card-swapping fraud

DALLAS, Texas — A Waxahachie man has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for orchestrating a SIM card-swapping fraud scheme, according to the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

Kimionte Bennett, a 30-year-old, was indicted in July 2025 and pled guilty in October 2025 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Chief U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor handed down the sentence and ordered Bennett to pay $1,769,438 in restitution.

Court documents reveal that Bennett facilitated multiple “SIM swap” attacks, allowing him and his co-conspirators to gain control over victims’ cell phone numbers by reassigning them to SIM cards they controlled. This access enabled them to intercept multi-factor authentication codes and illicitly access victims’ cryptocurrency accounts, resulting in a total loss of $1,769,438…
