‘It’s a nightmare’: Kenner family fights to reunite, clear name in the wake of Catahoula Crunch

When Andrea Cedeño and her husband, Wilmer Guevara Brito, chose to settle in Kenner, they had imagined an American dream of settling their family somewhere safe, buying a home and starting a business.

But when the U.S. Border Patrol operation Catahoula Crunch descended on Southeast Louisiana and Mississippi, their American dream turned into a nightmare. Guevara Brito was detained by Border Patrol — Cedeño was left to juggle a full time job, raise a teenage son and care for a newborn child alone.

On Dec. 10, Guevara Brito was arrested by immigration agents in Metairie while he was out working as a package delivery driver. He told Verite News that he was made to wait roughly 40 minutes for Gregory Bovino, who led the immigration enforcement operation in Louisiana and Mississippi, to arrive, and that his arrest was filmed and shared on social media, which the family said was humiliating…
