San Antonio attorney Daniel Micah Mehler, who markets himself as the “Dopest Lawyer in Town,” was arrested on Feb. 22 on a charge accusing him of assaulting his pregnant fiancée. Court records show Mehler posted a $50,000 bond and was released from the Bexar County jail. The warrant affidavit alleges the woman was about nine weeks pregnant and had visible injuries after the confrontation, as reported by the San Antonio Express-News.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, officers were called to Baptist Emergency Hospital after the woman reported an argument that began with accusatory phone calls, escalated inside her car and ended in a struggle in a grocery-store parking lot. Investigators say she provided medical documentation confirming the pregnancy and photos of multiple calls. She told police Mehler punched her in the right eye, struck her in the stomach and tried to pull jewelry from her, leaving scratches and injuries to her wrist and neck. The affidavit also notes Mehler had a small scratch near his right eye and that he acknowledged knowing his fiancée was pregnant, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Past allegations and grand jury decision
This is not the first time Mehler has faced serious accusations connected to his personal life. In July 2024 he was arrested on sexual-assault and family-violence counts. A Bexar County grand jury later declined to indict, and prosecutors dropped those cases in 2025. His attorney told reporters the evidence was insufficient and criticized the initial investigation. That history kept Mehler in local headlines and was detailed by the Houston Chronicle.
DWI and possession case still pending
On top of the new felony allegation, Mehler is still dealing with separate criminal proceedings from October 2025. San Antonio police charged him with DWI and possession of a controlled substance after officers said they found three small paper tabs in his vehicle. He posted a smaller bond and was released in that case. Reporting at the time laid out officers’ observations of slurred speech and the smell of alcohol in that arrest, as described by the San Antonio Express-News. Those matters remain part of his open court record.
‘Dopest Lawyer’ branding
Even as the criminal cases stack up, Mehler has continued to lean into a cannabis-focused public image. His firm’s website uses the “Dopest Lawyer in Town” slogan, and records show the phrase was registered as a trademark. The trademark registration for “THE DOPEST LAWYER IN TOWN” is publicly documented on Justia, and his firm pages display the same branding at Mehler Cannabis. Local stories have noted that persona as part of how Mehler is known in the community.
What the charge can mean under Texas law
The arrest affidavit lists an “assault of a pregnant person” charge, an enhancement prosecutors can bring when they allege the defendant knew the victim was pregnant. Under Texas law, a third-degree felony carries a punishment range of two to 10 years in state prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000, according to Texas Penal Code §12.34. Criminal-defense practitioners note prosecutors must generally prove the defendant knew the victim was pregnant to secure that enhancement, as outlined by Barton & Associates…
