Shreveport Salvation Army aids man with refuge and support

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana continues its mission in the community, with helping those in need.

Volunteer transforms life with Salvation Army program help

“I had to make a decision to make myself homeless in a city where I didn’t have any family members, and the Salvation Army opened their doors for me for those medical reasons,” said Larry Allen, a volunteer and on the road to recovery, battling health issues, who believes the Salvation Army met his needs at the perfect time.

“First time I came was August 24. I had cancer, and I have an HIV diagnosis, and coming from Monroe to Shreveport four times a month was costly,” Allen said.

He goes on to mention that living with cancer brought many challenges, and the Salvation Army helped him find the resources he needed to get back on his feet after falling on hard times again. “I moved into a place that was drug-infested. Nothing is worth my recovery. So I had to exit out of that place and found myself homeless again,” said Allen…
