McDonald’s Unleashes the “Big Arch”-But Did the CEO Actually Like It?

McDonald’s, a master of tempting taste buds and leaving us craving more, is about to drop its biggest burger yet on U.S. menus: the “Big Arch.” This super-sized take on the iconic Big Mac promises a hefty stack of two beef patties, white cheddar, crispy and fresh onions, lettuce, pickles, and a generous slathering of its signature “Big Arch sauce.” Fans can get their hands on this colossal creation starting March 3.

However, the buzz isn’t just about the burger itself. McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski has gone viral after posting a video of himself trying the “Big Arch” on Instagram, leading many viewers to question his enthusiasm – or lack thereof.

In the video, titled “McDonald’s CEO tries the Big Arch,” Kempczinski introduces the item as a “product” (a descriptor that later drew considerable online amusement). He then declares, “I’m gonna eat this for my lunch, just so you know,” before listing its ingredients and admitting, “I don’t even know how to attack it” and “There’s so much to it.”

He eventually takes a bite, zooming in on the burger and quipping, “That’s a big bite for a Big Arch.”

The Internet Reacts: A CEO’s “Big Bite” and “Product” Talk

Viewers, however, were quick to point out that his “big bite” was anything but. One user commented, “That was the smallest first bite I’ve ever seen,” while others playfully mocked his use of the word “product” to describe food. “That’s a nice-looking product, I’ll take two units, please,” joked one commenter, with another observing, “This man does not like that ‘product.'”

Even the fries in his box didn’t escape scrutiny. Reddit users and Instagram commenters alike pointed out that the CEO’s fries weren’t filled to the brim. “1st thing I thought was, ‘Damn.

They don’t even fill the fry box all the way for the CEO,'” wrote one Redditor, while an Instagram viewer chimed in, “Even the CEO’s fries box is half filled. Don’t feel so bad now.”

Despite the online commentary, Kempczinski did offer a positive assessment in the video, stating, “It’s distinctively McDonald’s, only McDonald’s could do this type of burger, but it also is unlike anything else on our menu. It’s a delicious product.”

Still, some viewers remained unconvinced, with one Redditor suggesting Kempczinski “looks vegetarian. Or full vegan,” and an Instagram user adding, “Man’s aura screams kale salad.”

The “Big Arch” has already made its mark in Canadian and European markets in 2024, even securing a permanent spot on the U.K. menu. McDonald’s CFO Ian Borden previously noted that customers were “hungry for a larger, more satisfying burger,” and the “Big Arch” is the company’s answer to that demand.

As McDonald’s UK proudly states, “The Big Arch isn’t just a burger; it’s built for those serious hunger moments that deserve more. Whether you’re tackling a long day or celebrating the end of a busy week, the Big Arch is the perfect way to make any moment bigger, bolder, and more delicious.”

Whether the CEO’s viral taste-test translates into widespread enthusiasm for the “Big Arch” remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: McDonald’s has once again stirred up a conversation.
