Squatter busted with keys to supposedly empty unit of apartment complex

A Jacksonville man was arrested after being caught squatting in an apartment complex with methamphetamine in his possession.

A service manager for Minneola Hills Apartments, located at 450 Hillside Park St., Minneola, opened the door to what should have been an empty unit around 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Seeing someone’s belongings in the living space, he called out and heard a “hello” from 37-year-old Miguel Angel Rivero Felix.

At that, the service manager left the unit to call 911. He then went back to find Rivero Felix had fled, leaving all his belongings behind, the report said.

Law enforcement spoke to a resident who had seen a suspicious man. He did not think anything of it because he thought maybe Rivero Felix was just a service tech for the apartment complex. He also gave a description of Rivero Felix and stated he would keep watch for him in case he came back, the report said…
