Tennessee officials report unused school resource officer money

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security said millions of dollars set aside to put school resource officers in schools went unused.

“I hate to see that,” State Rep. Michael Hale (R-Smithville) responded.

According to the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, in Davidson County, the state allocated $13 million to cover SROs across 183 schools, but only 56 schools used about $4 million. That means 127 schools did not receive funding, and $9.5 million was left unused.

“Disappointed certainly, it’s great when those funds are there. On a national level, we’ve been asking for them for a long, long time,” National Association of School Resource Officers Executive Director Mo Canady said…
