David Pierce turns lifelong love of Halloween spirit into Denton tradition

The Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, located at 400 E. Hickory St., hummed with the sound of conversation, laughter and original music during the Halloween-themed Moonlight Monster Ball.

Event executive director David Pierce described the event, which is a fundraiser for Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival, as a “fun alternative to Valentine’s Day.” The event hosted attendees in costumes and performers from the local Halloween-themed musical performance, Cirque du Horror. Outfitted in skeletal face paint and handmade decorations, performers were each given time to shine under the red spotlight during the four-hour celebration on Feb. 21.

“It’s exciting to see creativity expressed in so many different ways within one event,” Marketing Director Christopher Taylor said. “All of it’s creative, and I think that’s what’s special about something like this […] it creates an avenue for people to express creativity towards a common goal.”…
