SPRINGFIELD, MO — A shooting in downtown Springfield on Friday night left a 48‑year‑old man dead and sent police searching for a suspect who briefly ran through the streets before being detained by a bystander.
Springfield police said officers were called around 8 p.m. to the area of South Avenue and Walnut Street for reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Anthony Chambers, 48, of North Carolina, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
