ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A multi-million dollar affordable housing project has officially broken ground in one of Albuquerque’s most populated areas. The Cottages at 161 Chama near Central and Chama Street will serve people making 50% of the area’s median income and include single-bedroom and two-bedroom units.
The Center for Housing Economics says lawmakers secured more than $2 million for the project last year. Then, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham added the last $1.8 million. “It’s an opportunity for people who are employed, have a job, but they might be struggling coming out of recovery or out of homelessness or out of poverty, and you know, and having rent that is very cheap or affordable will enable them to stay housed,” said Roger Valdez, director with the Center for Housing Economics…
