Our community mourns the passing of Danise Baird, beloved wife of Indiana Rep. Jim Baird, who died Sunday due to complications from injuries sustained in a January car crash. The news was confirmed by the Republican lawmaker’s office.
In a statement shared on social media, the Congressman’s office highlighted the couple’s nearly six-decade marriage. “Congressman Baird and Danise were married for 59 years, building a life centered on faith, family, and service,” the statement read.
“A devoted wife and loving mother of three, she was the foundation of their family and will be deeply missed. We ask that you keep the Congressman and his family in your prayers during this difficult time.”
The couple was hospitalized earlier this year after their vehicle was involved in what then-President Trump described as a “bad accident.” While Rep. Baird had announced a week after the incident that both he and his wife had been discharged and were “continuing to recover,” specific details regarding the crash or their injuries were not disclosed at the time.
Tributes and condolences have poured in from Rep. Baird’s colleagues.
Minnesota Rep. Pete Stauber, Michigan Rep.
Lisa McClain, and Florida Rep. Jimmy Patronis collectively shared their sympathies, stating, “Please join me in praying for my colleague Rep.
Jim Baird and his family during this incredibly difficult time following the loss of his beloved wife, Danise.” New York GOP Rep.
Elise Stefanik also offered her condolences, noting that Danise Baird was frequently by the Congressman’s side as he served his constituents, describing them as “salt of the earth people” who have “sacrificed so much for our country.”
