Lost Fremont jazz recordings from Cliff Murphy found

FREMONT – After sitting in an unmarked box since 1964, the unreleased pressings of Toledo-area jazz legend Cliff Murphy are finally getting attention.

Clifford Murphy’s story was presented Feb. 18 as a Black History Month event at Terra State University Community College by Brennan Willis, Terra State’s director of music technology.

In the Toledo area, Murphy is known for his jazz club, Murphy’s Place. The club closed in 2011 after being open for 20 years. He often played bass in the club and was known for mentoring local young jazz musicians. Murphy was born in 1932 and died in 2019…
