WEST PALM BEACH, Fla (CBS12) — More than four years after losing their husbands to COVID-19, two widows of West Palm Beach police officers say they are still fighting for benefits they believe state law requires the city to pay.
Jamie Williams and Janine Testa say their husbands, Officers Robert Williams and Anthony Testa, became ill during the pandemic and died in 2021. Both deaths were officially classified as line-of-duty deaths, and the officers were honored by federal, state and local agencies.
Despite those designations, the women say the City of West Palm Beach has refused to pay a one-time $75,000 benefit available under Florida law to surviving spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty…
