McCully Hit-And-Run Horror Leaves Skateboarder Clinging To Life

A man is fighting for his life after a driver hit him on South King Street in the McCully area early Sunday, then kept going without stopping, according to Honolulu police. Emergency Medical Services took the injured skateboarder to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Police said the collision happened outside a marked crosswalk and that the investigation is still underway.

According to KHON2, officers told investigators the man had been crossing South King Street on a skateboard when the vehicle struck him. The driver did not stop to offer help or provide any information. Honolulu Police Department detectives in the Traffic Division are leading the case and have not yet determined whether speed, drugs or alcohol played a role.

Honolulu Police Department detectives are canvassing the neighborhood and pulling nearby video footage as they work to identify the vehicle and its driver. Anyone who may have seen the crash, or who has relevant dashcam footage, is asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department Traffic Division at (808) 723-3413, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

This latest case lands in the middle of a broader safety problem for people walking on Oʻahu. State data show that recent pedestrian fatalities are part of an ongoing islandwide trend. The Hawaii Department of Transportation’s preliminary traffic fatality summary for early 2026 lists pedestrian deaths among the most recent totals for the City and County of Honolulu, according to Hawaii DOT.
