Oliver “Power” Grant, Wu-Tang Clan’s Business Visionary, Passes Away at 52
STATEN ISLAND, NY – Oliver “Power” Grant, the instrumental business mind behind the iconic hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, has passed away at the age of 52 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. His bandmates confirmed the somber news on Monday, revealing that Grant transitioned on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
According to a post on the Wu-Tang Clan’s official Instagram account, Grant “transitioned… following a courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.” The statement added, “A true fighter until the end, he was surrounded by his mother, his children, his family, and his closest friends.” The group did not immediately clarify why the announcement of his cause of death was delayed for a week.
Known affectionately as “Pookie” to his friends, Grant was a proud son of Staten Island’s Park Hill neighborhood. His bandmates lauded him as “a visionary force, a pillar of the Wu-Tang family, and a global architect of culture,” whose impact was “singular.”
While not a rapper himself, the Jamaican-born Grant was the executive producer for the group’s albums and the brilliant strategist behind their successful branding and clothing line. His business acumen was crucial to the Wu-Tang Clan’s rise to prominence in the early 1990s and their enduring legacy in hip-hop.
Grant’s passing was initially reported by bandmate Method Man and New York’s legendary hip-hop radio station, Hot 97 (WQHT-FM).
Details regarding Grant’s memorial services have been announced, with a wake scheduled for March 13 and his funeral on March 14. The group stated that “exact location details closer to the service dates as we finalize securing the venues” would be released.
His death comes at a significant time for the Wu-Tang Clan, as the group is currently nominated for the 2026 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They face a competitive field of nominees, including Joy Division/New Order, Luther Vandross, Shakira, Sade, Pink, Oasis, New Edition, Iron Maiden, INXS, Billy Idol, Lauryn Hill, Melissa Etheridge, Phil Collins, Mariah Carey, Jeff Buckley, and the Black Crowes.
