CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Dennis Turner never met the man. He never got to shake his hand. But he remembers the day more than 40 years ago when Reverend Jesse Jackson rode into his hometown of Tunica, Mississippi.
“So growing up without a father, the thing is having someone to look up to, a mentor, someone, a model,” said Turner who visited the WBTV studios. “And that’s what he was for me. When you hear him speak and when you hear him talk, just to watch them walk in, they’re like giants to me. They were iconic.”
