POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Frostproof man was taken into custody Sunday evening following a hostile encounter with law enforcement over an illegal backyard fire. The incident began around 6:30 p.m. when a Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a residence on F Street East after spotting flames on the property.
Upon walking into the backyard to investigate, the deputy encountered 37-year-old Fidel O’Campo, Jr. According to investigators, O’Campo immediately became aggressive, shouting at the officer to “Get the [expletive] off my property and go back to your car.”
The deputy attempted to de-escalate the situation and speak with the resident, but O’Campo allegedly continued a verbal tirade using various profanities…
