KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — “Marshal” Andy Smalls, a Knoxville television and radio personality known for “Riders of the Silver Screen,” died Sunday morning at his Loudon home, according to writer Wayne Bledsoe. He was 96.
Smalls was one of 12 children born and raised in Georgetown, South Carolina, and he loved Western movies and singing. He took the name “Marshal Andy” while working at the Gold City theme park in North Carolina.

He came to Knoxville in the 1970s and worked for multiple companies before creating the “Riders of the Silver Screen” TV show at WKCH. In 1988, it moved to WTVK/WKXT, then to East Tennessee PBS.
Smalls stopped filming new shows in 2023 due to health problems, but PBS kept airing reruns on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. It featured B-Westerns, serials, and cartoons. Smalls also hosted radio shows during the 2000s and was a recording artist…
