MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – As wildfire threats continue to increase, communities nationwide are taking action to protect their homes and neighborhoods through a national recognition program that empowers residents to work together and reduce wildfire risk at the local level.
The FireWise USA program, administered by the National Fire Protection Association, provides a collaborative framework for neighbors to reduce wildfire risks. Communities that complete a five-step process can earn official recognition and access resources, training, and support to make their neighborhoods safer.
“FireWise recognition isn’t just about checking a box — it’s about creating safer communities and giving firefighters a better chance to protect lives and property when wildfires strike,” according to wildfire mitigation specialists working with the program.
