The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for 12 counties across Massachusetts and Connecticut, warning of mixed precipitation that could create hazardous travel conditions from Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday morning.
The advisory, released Monday afternoon by the NWS offices in Boston/Norton and Albany, is in effect from noon Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday for much of northern Connecticut and western, central, and northeastern Massachusetts. Additional advisories extend into parts of Rhode Island, New York, and Vermont.
Mixed Precipitation Expected
Forecasters say residents should prepare for a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain developing late Tuesday morning and continuing into the overnight hours.
According to the NWS Boston/Norton office, “Mixed precipitation [is] expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch.” The advisory notes that even light ice accumulation can create dangerous road conditions…
