The wait is over: Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve’s scenic coastal trails reopened on Sunday after a four-month closure.
The big picture: There are several trails to explore that don’t make you work too hard for panoramic ocean views.
Zoom in: Combine the Red Butte, Yucca Point and the Razor Point trails for an easy 1.6 mile hike that takes you to a rocky peak and cliffside overlooks.
- Make the steep trek down the beach trail (which includes some stairs) to the rocky beach and flat rock landmark. If the tide is low enough, continue your walk along the beach at the foot of the cliffs.
If you go: There’s free street parking along Torrey Pines State Beach or a paid lot ($12-$20), with additional parking spots up the hill.
- The walk up the road is tougher than it looks. But, you can take the trail down to the beach and walk back to the lot on the sand.
Pro tip: You can get a free parking pass at local libraries…
