Fort Bliss traffic delays amid heightened alert for Iran

There were major traffic delays in El Paso outside the gates to Fort Bliss as all U.S. military bases are on heightened alert due to the conflict with Iran.

“Based on the current world situation and local environment, the Force Protection Condition (FPCON) level at Fort Bliss has increased,” U.S. Northern Command said in an emailed statement. “Employees and visitors to the installation should plan for increased security measures on the installation and/or longer wait times to access the installation.”

The El Paso Police Department’s traffic account on X during the early commute Monday morning, March 2, was reporting “abnormal congestion” and “major backups” in the area of the U.S. 54 and Spur 601 interchange and the flyover bridge at Fred Wilson Avenue.
