Burned house near Chastain continues decline, attracting illegal dumping

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A Broadmoor homeowner grows frustrated watching a burned structure decline at a busy intersection in her neighborhood. Residents have petitioned the city for years about the appearance, which is affecting their property values.

“The roof is starting to cave in a lot,” said Elizabeth Steadham, pointing to the collapsing house at Broadmoor Drive and Manhattan Road. “Things falling through the cracks with the city, but it’s what it feels like.”

For more than two years, Steadham has watched the burned house behind hers continue to fall into decay. It’s an eyesore that she and others want the city to address. The stay-at-home mom moved back to Broadmoor in 2023, hoping to be a part of the area’s revitalization. She spoke with us about the problem in January 2025…
