Rockford house fire leaves dog dead, homeowner displaced, officials say

ROCKFORD, Ill, (WTVO) — The Rockford Fire Department says an afternoon house fire left a dog dead and displaced its owner.

According to officials, on March 2nd, around 2:31 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire. When they arrived, firefighters reported smoke coming from the house.

Authorities say initial reports indicated that a person and a dog were still inside, prompting crews to initiate a rescue operation. It was later confirmed that the homeowner wasn’t home at the time, and the dog didn’t survive, fire crews said…
