Getting a handle on dysfunctional city finances in Cleveland Heights

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — With no municipal bond rating expected until the completion of two overdue annual state audits, the city’s new finance director recommends ongoing fiscal restraint.

In his first monthly meeting with City Council’s finance committee on Feb. 23, Joe Brodzinski said the Ohio Auditor’s Office should now have everything it needs to conclude the 2023 audit.

“We’re not anticipating any issues, so the state could be releasing their findings (soon),” Brodzinski told council. “There are still a handful of items to compile before turning in remaining financials for the 2024 state audit…
