Africatown Bridge lane shut down after crane collision

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A portion of U.S. 90 on the Africatown Bridge is closed, according to a Facebook post from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) Southwest Region.

ALDOT posted to the page Sunday evening, saying the right westbound lane on the Africatown Bridge will be closed for an “indefinite period.”

According to ALDOT, a crane being transported along the Mobile River hit the bridge early Sunday morning. Engineers deemed the bridge safe for travel after completing an inspection and determining the damage was isolated to a specific area…
