What’s the status of the new cafe at Douglas and Emporia?

It’s hard to open a giant new coffee shop at a busy corner in downtown Wichita without people noticing.

And although Mohammed Sudais Ruknuddin isn’t officially opening his new coffee shop — 11:11 Coquetry Maison — to the public until 3 p.m. on Friday, he’s had trouble keeping his soft opening under wraps. People have been wandering into the shop for the past several days, but it’s not completely ready to go: Ruknuddin hasn’t been able to get the products he needs for his food menu just yet, and he wants to have it ready to go when he flings the doors wide open.

The new shop, which has taken over the 2,500-square-foot space at 105 S. Emporia where A Legacy Antiques operated until 2018, is the result of a dream the owner has had for years. Coquetry Maison is French for “flirty house,” and 11:11, for those into numerology, is a moment of “divine synchronization.” Many believe that people who glance at the clock when it’s 11:11 should make a wish…
