SPOKANE, Wash. – Property owners within the Spokane city limits are now eligible to receive one free solar-powered, motion-detecting residential light. The City of Spokane announced in a press release that remaining funding from the American Rescue Plan Act would fully support the program.
“The Spokane Safe and Bright Residential Lighting Program is a smart, targeted investment in neighborhood safety and quality of life,” Councilman Michael Cathcart said. “Helping residents improve lighting around their homes, particularly in underlit areas of our neighborhoods, is a practical step that can deter crime while supporting families and making Spokane feel safer and more welcoming.”
Cathcart assisted with the creation of the program as well as securing funding.
The City of Spokane recommended that residents install their light “in an alleyway, sidewalk or public walking area.”…
