Mitigation work along some shorelines in Kitsap County will be planned following the Navy’s upcoming new dry dock construction at the Bremerton base in the next few years.
In its plan to build a new dry dock at PSNS, the Navy is proposing permittee-responsible compensatory mitigation to restore tidal wetlands, marine waterbodies and shorelines in three sites in Kitsap, according to a public notice published on Feb. 11. The notice indicated that a permit is being requested from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District for the new dry dock project.
The new multi-mission dry dock at PSNS is part of the Navy’s plan to modernize its public shipyards. Once built, PSNS will be able to support the maintenance of its newest Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers and other classes of nuclear-powered submarines…
