Some Gilbert large land owners could get a water rate break

Some owners of large parcels of land specifically used for agricultural purposes could get a little relief from Gilbert’s rising water rates under a pilot program the Town Council is scheduled to consider Tuesday.

Council’s March 3 vote on the agricultural water rate pilot comes several weeks after it was discussed in a study session.

Lauren Hixson, water resources manager, said town staff looked at large residential properties that “support livestock and local food production” in order to “identify options to ease this rate burden while ensuring fairness for all customers.”…
