HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – City officials say they hope to remove squatters and begin taking down makeshift structures along Keehi Stream in about two months, following renewed attention to a hidden encampment that includes a two-story floating house.
The encampment sits in an area surrounded by mangroves and kiawe, accessible mostly by boat. Outreach workers say that dense overgrowth has made it difficult to reach residents.
The first step to clearing out the folks who live there is to do outreach to them, which is almost impossible because of the mangroves and kiawe.
