Gusty Winds Sweep In Wednesday With Santa Ana Event Possible Friday

LOS ANGELES – Another bout of gusty winds is expected to sweep across the Southland starting Wednesday afternoon, March 4, lingering into Thursday, March 5 – and forecasters say a potentially stronger Santa Ana wind event could follow as early as Friday morning, March 6.

The National Weather Service said northerly winds will ramp up Wednesday afternoon, first targeting mountain areas and the region’s wind-prone north–south corridors before spreading and strengthening into the San Fernando Valley, the Santa Monica Mountains, and western Los Angeles County coastal areas.

The weather service said gusts of 35 to 50 mph will be common, with isolated pockets possibly reaching around 60 mph – including the I-5 corridor, the Highway 33 corridor in the Ventura mountains, parts of the western Antelope Valley foothills, and the eastern Santa Ynez range near the Montecito Hills. Forecasters warned the wind orientation could create hazardous crosswinds on major freeways and contribute to airport delays at LAX and possibly Hollywood Burbank Airport, before easing Thursday evening…
