Rocky River High School maintenance worker resigns after being charged with attempted contributing to delinquency of a minor

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — A Rocky River High School staff member has resigned from his position weeks after being arrested on a misdemeanor charge of attempted contributing to the delinquency or unruliness of a minor.

In a letter obtained by 3News that was shared with district families on Tuesday, Superintendent Adham Schirg confirmed 56-year-old Michael Sandy quit his job as a maintenance repairman rather than potentially be fired. Schirg stated that the Rocky River City School District had begun the required pre-termination process against Sandy, and upon informing him, he chose to submit his resignation effective today.

“Creating a culture where students are safe to speak up is essential to protecting every child in our care,” Schrig wrote. “Please know that the safety, dignity, and well-being of our students remain at the center of every decision we make.”

CASE DETAILS

Both the district and Rocky River Police Department have said Sandy was first placed on paid administrative leave on Feb. 5 after “a current student raised concerns regarding interactions with Mr. Sandy.” While those allegations were deemed not to be criminal in nature, the school continued to conduct its own internal investigation, during which officials say “a pattern of conduct involving former students began to emerge.”…
