HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — A year after the Covington Drive wildfire burned more than 2,000 acres, the scars are still visible across the landscape, even as homeowners move closer to a sense of normalcy and repaired homes dot the neighborhood.
From above, the burn area remains apparent, with some places hit by heat intense enough to suffocate even fire-adapted forests.
Up close, forester Drake Carroll pointed out lingering damage on trees within the Reserve at Walkers Woods, saying, “You can actually see the charring on the tree. That’s how high the flames like wrap around the tree.”…
