Reckless driver hits pedestrian, drives into jail in wild Sacramento police chase

A man who plowed his car into a Sacramento County Main Jail sally port Monday night during a police pursuit in downtown Sacramento was captured by officers at the end of the wild chase that also left a pedestrian with mild injuries.

The incident began about 8:15 p.m. at Sixth and I streets when officers attempted a traffic stop on a suspected reckless driver, Sacramento police said. The driver failed to stop, and officers initiated a pursuit.

During the chase, a pedestrian ran into the street in an apparent attempt to engage the driver and was struck by the fleeing vehicle, police said. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries…
