Oscar-nominated director to be honored at 29th Sonoma International Film Festival

Legendary artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel is set to be honored in Wine Country this month at the 29th Sonoma International Film Festival.

Schanabel, who rose to fame in his native New York during the 1970s and ’80s with his large scale expressive “plate paintings” and later became an Oscar-nominated director, will be feted on March 27.

The director of “Basquiat” (1996), “Before Night Falls” (2000), “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” (2007) and “At Eternity’s Gate,” which starred Willem Dafoe as Vincent Van Gogh, will also be in conversation during a career retrospective before a festival screening of his latest film, “In the Hands of Dante.”…
